How can I add more than 1,000,000 URLs to a Sitemap?

How can I add more than 1,000,000 URLs to a Sitemap? - answered by Matt Cutts

Matt's answer:

CUTTS: Here is a question from Magico in London who has an issue that lots of people would like to have. Magico asks, “What’s the best way to deal with big sitemaps.xml, for example, more than a million pages?” So, a Sitemap file can have up to 50,000 entries. And then you can break it into multiple Sitemap files and you have a site index and you can have up to 50,000 of those as I recall. So, 50,000 times 50,000 means you can have Sitemap entries for up to 2.5 billion pages. And if you need more than that then you should probably drop us an email or something like that. So, if you get beyond, say, 50,000 pages, I would try to break it up and then you can put the site index in your robots.txt file and everything should work just fine.
